HR & Operations Director

Position Overview

We are looking for a dynamic HR & Operations Director who will own and lead all human resources functions for our San Francisco office and US remote employees, co-ordinate HR functional alignment across our Kenya, Uganda, India and European offices, and provide support on other company operations projects as needed. Reporting to the CFO, the ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of direct HR admin experience in managing payroll, benefits, employee and labor regulation compliance, and have familiarity with best practices in hiring, performance management, compensation, employee engagement, well being and training.   Fluency in data analytics, financial spreadsheets and HR systems a must; as is experience and comfort in a fast growing start-up environment.  And most importantly, we're looking for people that share our passion in alleviating poverty through innovation and technology.

Responsibilities:

Human Resources

  • Own payroll, benefits and employee welfare programs and legal compliance with local, state and federal employment and labor standards, regulations and laws.
  • Lead strategic and cost benefit evaluation of PEO and third party HR service providers.    
  • Manage employee hire, change and termination process.
  • Manage company wide performance evaluation process.
  • Own US based human resource policies and procedures and co-ordinate alignment in policies, practices and tools across international offices and employees.

Operations

  • Design and implement office policies by establishing standards and procedures; measuring results against standards; making necessary adjustments.
  • Maintain highly-functioning data management system.
  • Respond to external and internal inquiries.
  • Review and approve supply purchases.
  • Supervise and support Office Administrator.
  • Manage special projects on ad hoc basis.

Qualifications

  • Passion for our social mission.
  • Minimum 2 years HR admin experience in California,  2 years HR manager level or above or equivalent experience in a start-up environment.
  • Data and spreadsheet savvy - high degree of proficiency in spreadsheet, HR data analytics and HR and financial concepts.
  • Familiarity with cloud based HR tools.
  • 4 year degree preferably in business administration or a related field.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and multitasking ability.
  • At home in a fast-paced environment and eager to proactively tackle process and operational improvements.
  • Comfortable working with multiple internal teams and external partners.
  • Great sense of humor and desire to create a fun, positive work space. 
  • Globally curious and well travelled a plus.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
