Samaschool is the first and only nonprofit focused on equipping people to earn a living wage through independent work. We provide a free 9-12 hour training to low-income job-seekers and others with barriers in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City, delivered on-site at partner organizations and educational institutions. Our curriculum prepares students to obtain and succeed at independent work and to leverage this experience to achieve their goals. Our unique approach to workforce development has led us to being named the #2 most innovative nonprofit by Fast Company in 2016, and one of the 13 most innovative schools in the world. Samaschool is part of Samasource, a social enterprise that trains and employs people in digital work internationally.
Samaschool is looking for a volunteer Graphic Design Intern to support Samaschool’s Blended Gig Training -- an LMS- facilitated in-person training course that teaches people to become gig work freelancers. Most of our students are low-income people who have limited job opportunities in their local communities, and are seeking to use freelancing to build a better life for them and their families.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to work in a startup nonprofit, and gain experience in day-to-day operations, develop visually-compelling and on-brand visual assets that convey a strong message to students. We are one of just a handful of organizations dedicated to trying to figure out how to make e-learning live up to its promise of democratizing education across the socioeconomic spectrum, and we welcome candidates who share our dedication to solving what we consider the greatest challenge and opportunity of education in our lifetimes: leveraging the technological revolution of online/blended learning to serve those who most need it most. The position is unpaid, and either based in our San Francisco office or 100% remote, though you will need to commit to a weekly 30 minute phone or in-person meeting during business hours (PST).
